Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 9 October 2026
How these terms fit together
These are three linked contracts for Tapatradie Limited, trading as Tap a Tradie. Every User accepts Part A and Part C when booking. Every Tradie accepts Part B on sign-up and agrees Part C applies to every job, unless the Tradie’s own terms are shown to the User before booking (see B6).
| Part | Contract between | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| A | Tap a Tradie and the User | Using the app, the Booking Fee, payments, cancellations, Tap a Tradie’s limited role |
| B | Tap a Tradie and the Tradie | Sign-up, Companies House, qualifications, job categories, fees, no-shows, suspension |
| C | Tradie and the User | The job itself: price, workmanship, warranty, cancellation, liability |
Definitions used in all three Parts
- Tap a Tradie, we, us: Tapatradie Limited, company number 17355214, registered office Fitzroy House, Crown Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 3LG. VAT registration number GB 531 3799 81. Contact us at support@tapatradie.app.
- App: the Tap a Tradie mobile app, website and related services.
- User: the home occupier who books a Job through the App.
- Tradie: a self-employed tradesperson who signs up to the App and personally carries out Jobs, trading either as a sole trader registered with HMRC for Self Assessment or through their own limited company registered at Companies House.
- Personal service: every Job is carried out by the Tradie in person, not by an employee, subcontractor or anyone else.
- Job: the work the User books with the Tradie through the App.
- Job Price: the price for the Job set by the Tradie, including any call-out charge.
- Booking Fee: the fee Tap a Tradie charges the User for using the App.
- Qualification: a trade registration, certificate or accreditation (for example Gas Safe, OFTEC, NICEIC, WaterSafe).
- Job Category: a type of work in the App (for example “Gas boiler repair”) that requires specific Qualifications.
- Property: the address where the Job is carried out.
- Arrival Window: the time slot the Tradie commits to arrive within.
Part A: Customer Terms of Use (Tap a Tradie and the User)
These terms apply when you use the App to find and book a Tradie. Please read them with Part C (the Job terms) and Schedule 1 (cancellation and no-show charges).
A1. Our role
- Tap a Tradie runs an app that connects Users with independent Tradies. We do not carry out any trade work.
- When you book a Job, your contract for the work is with the Tradie, not with us. The Tradie is responsible for the quality, safety and legality of the work, its insurance and any warranty.
- Tradies are independent businesses. They are not our employees, agents or partners.
A2. Who can use the App
- You must be 18 or over. We confirm this when you create your account, and you must give a true date of birth. You must also be the occupier of the Property, or have the owner’s or landlord’s permission for the work.
- You must give accurate details of the Property, the problem and access arrangements. Anyone aged 18 or over must be present when the Tradie arrives.
A3. Booking and the Booking Fee
- The App is free to download and use. Tap a Tradie’s only charge to you is the Booking Fee, which applies only when you confirm a booking. Before you confirm, the App shows the Tradie, the Arrival Window, the Job Price (or how it will be worked out) and the Booking Fee. The total you pay is shown before you confirm.
- The Booking Fee is £12 (£10 plus £2 VAT) per booking and is charged by Tap a Tradie for use of the App. It is added on top of the Tradie’s Job Price, not taken out of it. You pay one Booking Fee per booking. If you later approve additional work on the same Job, no further Booking Fee is charged; instead a platform fee of 10% of the extra labour is added to your bill (parts are passed through at cost). The Booking Fee also forms part of any cancellation or no-show charge under Schedule 1.
- The Booking Fee is refunded in full if the Tradie cancels, fails to turn up, fails our identity checks, cannot attend, or cannot show valid Qualifications on arrival. Otherwise it is non-refundable once the Tradie has accepted the Job, except as set out in Schedule 1.
- If you refer a friend who signs up with your code, you earn a £5 referral credit once your friend’s first Job is paid for. It comes off the Booking Fee on your next standard booking (not urgent call-outs) and is applied automatically.
A4. Payments
- You pay through the App by card. Payments are processed by Stripe, and your card details are held by Stripe, not Tap a Tradie. Paying the Job Price through the App counts as paying the Tradie.
- We save your card when you book and charge it when the Tradie marks the Job complete and you sign it off in the App. Nothing is charged for the Job Price until you sign off; there is no automatic completion or charge if you do not.
- If a payment fails, we try your card again once a day, up to seven attempts in total over seven days. Until it clears, the Job shows an outstanding payment in the App.
- Extra work or parts not in the original price must be agreed and paid for through the App before the Tradie carries them out. Approved extra work carries a platform fee of 10% of the extra labour, shown before you approve it; parts are passed through at cost and there is no further Booking Fee. You must not arrange or pay for additional work on the Job directly with the Tradie outside the App. Work arranged outside the App is not covered by these terms, and we may suspend accounts that do this.
A5. Checking the Tradie when they arrive
- Before any work starts, you must ask the Tradie to show photo ID and the trade Qualification cards for the work (for example a Gas Safe ID card for gas work).
- Check they match the details shown in the App. You can also check Gas Safe registration at the Gas Safe Register website.
- If the person who arrives is not the Tradie shown in the App, cannot show valid Qualifications, or the Qualifications do not match, do not let work begin. Report it in the App. The Job will be cancelled at no cost to you and any payment refunded.
- This check is an extra safeguard. It does not reduce the Tradie’s legal duty to be qualified and competent.
A6. Safety
- If you smell gas, leave the Property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 before booking anything.
- The App is not an emergency service. If there is a risk to life, call 999.
A7. Cancelling
- You can cancel a booking in the App. Any charges are set out in Schedule 1 and shown before you confirm the cancellation.
- You get a free-cancellation allowance each rolling 30 days: 5 booked Jobs and 2 urgent call-outs that would otherwise be free to cancel. Beyond the allowance, cancelling an accepted Job that would otherwise be free costs the £12 Booking Fee (it never stacks on top of a Schedule 1 charge).
- To keep the App reliable for Tradies, you can have one live urgent call-out and up to three open booking requests at a time, and repeatedly cancelling accepted call-outs can pause your ability to post new urgent call-outs (ordinary bookings still work).
- Urgent call-outs are free to cancel until the Tradie sets off (subject to the allowance above). Once the Tradie is on the way, the call-out fee already taken is kept for the wasted trip and nothing further is charged.
- If a Tradie fails our identity checks or cannot attend, you are not charged and any Booking Fee or call-out fee already taken is refunded. Genuine emergencies on either side are handled by support at support@tapatradie.app.
- Your legal right to cancel within 14 days is explained in Part C.
A8. Reviews
Reviews must be honest and about a Job you booked. We may remove reviews that are false, offensive or unrelated. We do not accept payment for reviews.
A9. Our responsibility to you
- At sign-up each Tradie’s identity is verified by Stripe. Tap a Tradie admins check Gas Safe and OFTEC registration, a sole trader’s Unique Taxpayer Reference and a company’s Companies House details against the evidence provided; these are marked “Verified” in the App. Other certificates and insurance are declared by the Tradie, with expiry dates, and are marked “Declared”. We remind Tradies before Qualifications expire and pause their accounts when they lapse. Health and safety on the Job, including risk assessments, is the Tradie’s responsibility; we do not supervise Jobs.
- We do not guarantee the work, the Tradie’s competence or that a Qualification declared by a Tradie is genuine or current.
- We are not responsible for the Tradie’s work, delays, damage caused by the Tradie, or any warranty. If the Tradie stops trading, we do not take over its warranty or liability.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights.
A10. Complaints
- Complaints about the work go to the Tradie first, through the App. We will pass messages on and try to help resolve disputes, but we cannot make decisions binding on the Tradie.
- Complaints about the App or the Booking Fee go to support@tapatradie.app. We aim to reply within 5 working days.
A11. Your data
We use your personal data as set out in our Privacy Policy. We share your name, address, contact details and job details with the Tradie so they can carry out the Job.
A12. General
- We may suspend your account for misuse, abuse of Tradies or non-payment.
- We may update these terms. Changes will not affect bookings already confirmed.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Part B: Tradie Terms (Tap a Tradie and the Tradie)
These terms apply to every business that signs up to receive Jobs through the App. They are a business-to-business contract.
B1. Relationship
- Tap a Tradie provides an introduction and booking service. The Tradie contracts directly with each User for each Job.
- The Tradie is an independent business. Nothing in these terms makes the Tradie our employee, worker, agent or partner.
- The Tradie decides how to carry out the work, subject to these terms and the law.
B2. Who can sign up
The Tradie must, at sign-up and at all times:
- be either (a) a limited company registered at Companies House, with active status and not in liquidation, administration or any insolvency process, or (b) a sole trader registered with HMRC for Self Assessment who is not bankrupt or in an individual voluntary arrangement;
- provide, if a company, its company number, registered office and the name of a director who has verified their identity through Stripe; or, if a sole trader, their full name, trading name, business address, Unique Taxpayer Reference, evidence of HMRC registration and proof of identity verified through Stripe; and in either case its VAT number (if registered);
- declare any public liability insurance it holds (insurer, policy number and expiry date), keep that declaration accurate, and be able to provide the certificate if asked. Insurance is not checked by us; it is shown to Users as declared, where the Tradie has provided it;
- have the right to work in the UK.
B3. Competence, insurance and certification
- Self-declaration. Each time the Tradie switches on an item in Insurance & certificates in the App, it confirms that it genuinely holds that item, that it is current, that the expiry date entered is the date on the document, and that it is held in the name of the business trading on Tap a Tradie.
- Minimum requirements. The Tradie must at all times hold any registration the law requires for the work it offers (for example Gas Safe registration for gas work and OFTEC for oil-fired appliances), and we strongly recommend public liability insurance appropriate to its trade. The App marks the items required for each Job Category, and the Tradie cannot accept Jobs in a Job Category until those items are switched on. For gas work, the Tradie must be personally on the Gas Safe Register and hold a current Gas Safe ID card covering the appliance type.
- Competence. For each Job Category, the Tradie confirms it is competent to carry out that work and must be able to provide evidence of its Qualifications and competence if asked.
- Keeping declarations accurate. The Tradie must switch an item off, or update its expiry date, as soon as the cover or certificate lapses, changes or is withdrawn. Users are told which items are declared by the Tradie (“Declared”) and which have been checked by Tap a Tradie admins against evidence (“Verified”): Gas Safe, OFTEC, sole-trader UTR and company details.
- Reminders. We will send reminders 30 and 7 days before, and on, a declared expiry date.
- Automatic pause. If a required item is not declared or verified, or its expiry date passes, the Tradie will not be offered Jobs, will not appear in search or on the live map, and cannot go online until it is restored. Accepted Jobs that fall after a lapse are released back to the pool, with notice to both the Tradie and the User.
- Checks. We may ask for a copy of any declared document at any time, including after a Job or a complaint. The Tradie must provide it within 5 working days. We may also check with the issuing body.
- False declarations. A false, out-of-date or misleading declaration is a material breach of these terms. We may suspend or close the Tradie’s account immediately, withhold payouts for work carried out while the declaration was false, and inform the User, the issuing body and, where required, the authorities.
- The Tradie’s responsibility. The Tradie is solely responsible for the competence, Qualifications and insurance needed for the work it accepts. Tap a Tradie does not assess competence, is not the Tradie’s insurer and does not warrant the Tradie’s work.
B4. Accepting and carrying out Jobs
- By accepting a Job, the Tradie confirms that it is legally covered for that Job, with valid insurance and every Qualification and certification the work requires. The Tradie may only accept Jobs in Job Categories it has unlocked and must carry out every Job personally. The Tradie must not send an employee, subcontractor or anyone else in their place, or pass a Job to another person outside the App.
- The Tradie must arrive within the Arrival Window, or tell the User and us through the App as soon as it knows it will be late.
- On arrival the Tradie must show photo ID and Qualification cards to the User before starting work.
- The Tradie must carry out work with reasonable care and skill, comply with all laws and regulations (including Building Regulations and Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations), complete any required notifications, and give the User the relevant certificates.
- Extra work or price changes must be agreed with the User in the App before the work is done.
- Health and safety and RAMS. The Tradie must prepare its own risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) for every Job before starting work, and is solely responsible for health and safety on the Job, including its own safety and that of the User and anyone else at the Property. The Tradie may refuse or stop work where it is unsafe to continue. Tap a Tradie does not prepare, review or approve RAMS, does not supervise Jobs and accepts no responsibility for health and safety on any Job.
B5. Price, fees and payment
- The Tradie sets its Job Prices and call-out charges and is responsible for any VAT on them.
- Tap a Tradie does not charge the Tradie any fee or commission for Jobs completed through the App, and the Tradie receives their full Job Price. Tap a Tradie’s income is the Booking Fee paid by the User and, on approved additional work, a platform fee of 10% of the extra labour, also paid by the User.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. The Tradie must set up and keep a Stripe connected account through the App and accept Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement. Payouts are made weekly to the Tradie’s connected account, on a weekday set when the Tradie connects their bank; funds then clear on Stripe’s standard timescale, which is usually 7 days. A Tradie’s first payouts may take longer while Stripe completes its checks on a new account. Tap a Tradie absorbs Stripe’s processing fees out of its own Booking Fee, so the Tradie receives the full Job Price with no platform deduction or commission. Chargebacks and refunds relating to the Tradie’s work are the Tradie’s responsibility.
B6. Terms with the User
- Part C applies to every Job unless the Tradie uploads its own terms and they are shown to the User before booking.
- Any terms the Tradie uses must comply with consumer law and must not conflict with Part A, Part B or Schedule 1.
B7. Cancellations and no-shows
Cancellations and no-shows by the Tradie are dealt with in Schedule 1. Repeated no-shows may lead to suspension or removal.
B8. Warranty, liability and insurance
- The Tradie alone gives any warranty or guarantee for its work and is solely responsible for defects, damage, injury or loss caused by its work.
- If the Tradie stops trading or becomes insolvent, its warranty and liabilities stay with the Tradie. They do not pass to Tap a Tradie.
- The Tradie will indemnify Tap a Tradie against claims, losses and costs arising from its work, any breach of these terms or any false Qualification or insurance declaration.
B9. Working through the App
All work for a User introduced through the App, including any additional work on the same Job, must be quoted, agreed and paid for through the App. The Tradie must not offer, quote, arrange or accept payment for additional work on the Job outside the App, or encourage the User to do so. For 12 months after the introduction, the Tradie must not encourage that User to book future work outside the App. A breach of this clause may lead to suspension or removal.
B10. Data
The Tradie may use User data only to carry out the Job and meet its legal obligations. It must keep that data secure and comply with UK GDPR.
B11. Suspension and ending these terms
- We may put a hold on a Tradie’s account, or remove the Tradie from the App, immediately if it no longer meets B2 or B3, makes a false declaration, puts anyone at risk, or receives serious complaints. If a required Qualification expires, the account will be paused automatically until valid evidence is provided. After three no-show strikes the account is paused automatically pending review by a Tap a Tradie admin. Accepted Jobs affected by a lapse are released back to the pool, as set out in B3.
- Either side may end these terms on 30 days’ notice. Jobs already accepted must still be completed or properly cancelled.
B12. General
- Our total liability to the Tradie is limited to the greater of the Booking Fees Tap a Tradie received in connection with that Tradie’s Jobs in the 12 months before the claim, or £500. We are not liable for loss of profit or business.
- We may change these terms on 30 days’ notice.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Part C: Standard Job Terms (Tradie and the User)
These terms form the contract between the User and the Tradie for each Job, unless the Tradie’s own terms were shown in the App before booking. Tap a Tradie is not a party to this contract.
C1. The contract
- The contract is made when the Tradie accepts the User’s booking in the App.
- The Tradie’s name, business address and, if a company, its company number are shown in the App and on the booking confirmation.
C2. Price
- Each Tradie sets their own rates for services, call-outs and hourly work. Tap a Tradie does not set or control these rates. The Job Price is as shown in the App at booking: a fixed price, or the Tradie’s call-out charge plus their hourly rate. Parts are not included in the Job Price and must be agreed with the User in the App before they are used.
- If the Tradie finds that more work or parts are needed, it must explain why and agree a price with the User in the App before carrying them out. Additional work on the Job must be agreed and paid for through the App, not arranged directly between the User and the Tradie. The User may refuse and pay only for work already done.
C3. What the Tradie will do
- Carry out the work personally, with reasonable care and skill, holding the Qualifications needed, having prepared its own risk assessment and method statement for the Job, and taking responsibility for health and safety while working.
- Show photo ID and Qualification cards before starting.
- Use parts and materials that are of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.
- Comply with all relevant laws and regulations, make any required notifications, and give the User the relevant certificates (for example a Gas Safe notification or Building Regulations compliance certificate).
- Leave the work area reasonably clean and tidy.
C4. What the User will do
- Give accurate information about the problem and the Property.
- Provide safe access, water, power and a reasonable working area, and keep pets and children away from the work area.
- Check the Tradie’s ID and Qualification cards before any work begins, and not allow work to begin if they cannot be shown.
- Pay the Job Price through the App.
C5. Warranty
- The Tradie guarantees its workmanship for the warranty period shown for the Job in the App. The Tradie sets this period, at least 12 months and up to 36 months, and it runs from completion. Parts are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, which the Tradie will pass to the User.
- If a defect in the workmanship appears within that period, the User should report it to the Tradie through the App. The Tradie will return and put it right at no extra cost within a reasonable time.
- The warranty does not cover misuse, wear and tear, work altered by others, or faults in parts of the system the Tradie did not work on.
- The warranty is given by the Tradie alone. Tap a Tradie does not give or underwrite it. If the Tradie stops trading or becomes insolvent, the warranty does not pass to Tap a Tradie.
- This warranty is in addition to the User’s legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
C6. The User’s right to cancel
- The User has a legal right to cancel within 14 days of the contract being made, without giving a reason.
- If the User asks the Tradie to start within those 14 days (which the App asks the User to confirm at booking), the User must pay for work done up to the point of cancelling. Once the work is fully completed, the right to cancel ends.
- Where the User has specifically asked for an urgent repair visit, the right to cancel does not apply to the urgent repair itself, only to extra goods or services supplied beyond what the urgent repair required.
- Other cancellations and no-shows are dealt with in Schedule 1.
C7. Liability
- The Tradie is responsible for loss or damage caused by its work that was reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made.
- The Tradie is not responsible for defects that already existed and were not caused by its work, or for hidden problems it could not reasonably have found, provided it tells the User about them when found.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or the User’s statutory rights.
C8. Complaints
- The User should raise any complaint with the Tradie through the App. The Tradie must respond within 5 working days.
- If it cannot be resolved, either side may use an approved alternative dispute resolution service or the small claims court.
C9. General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If the User lives in Scotland or Northern Ireland, they may also bring proceedings there.
Schedule 1: Cancellation and no-show charges
Cancelling is free until the Tradie accepts; after that, a User who cancels late or fails to show pays, and the Tradie is compensated. Tradies are not charged money — their reliability is managed through strikes (see below). All charges are shown in the App before booking and before a cancellation is confirmed.
Customer cancellations: booked jobs
| Situation | Charge to the User |
|---|---|
| Cancel before any Tradie has accepted | Free. Never counted. |
| Cancel an accepted booking 48 hours or more before the slot | Free. Counts against the allowance. |
| Cancel within 48 hours of the slot | 50% of the agreed Job Price, plus the £12 Booking Fee |
| Cancel on the day of the slot (UK calendar day) | 100% of the agreed Job Price, plus the £12 Booking Fee |
| Cancel after the Tradie has set off | Not possible in the App. Treated as a no-show if the User is not there. |
| Tradie proposed a new time and the User declined | Free at any time. Never counted. |
| User proposed a new time and the Tradie refused | Normal charges above apply. Never counted. |
| User does not show for the slot | Reported by the Tradie and reviewed by Tap a Tradie staff. 100% of the agreed Job Price, plus the £12 Booking Fee. |
Customer cancellations: urgent call-outs
| Situation | Charge to the User |
|---|---|
| Cancel before the Tradie sets off | Free. Counts against the allowance once a Tradie has accepted; beyond the allowance the £12 Booking Fee applies (A7). |
| Cancel while the Tradie is driving | No new charge. The call-out fee already taken is kept and paid to the Tradie for the wasted trip. |
| Cancel after the Tradie has arrived | Not possible. The Job is in progress and is billed by time. |
| User does not answer at the door | The call-out fee is released to the Tradie. No hourly time is charged. |
| Tradie fails identity checks or cannot attend | Nothing. Any Booking Fee or call-out fee already taken is refunded. |
| Genuine emergency on either side | Handled by support; charges may be waived. |
Terms used above:
- Agreed Job Price: the price agreed for the booking. A late-cancellation charge is a share of it (50% or 100%, as shown above) plus the £12 Booking Fee. The Tradie receives the Job-Price share (less card processing costs); Tap a Tradie keeps the Booking Fee.
- £12 Booking Fee: the platform fee of £12 (£10 plus £2 VAT), kept by Tap a Tradie.
- Call-out fee: for urgent call-outs, the Tradie’s fixed charge for coming out. It is taken when the Tradie sets off, held, and released to the Tradie once arrival is confirmed in the App. Time on site is then billed at the Tradie’s hourly rate, rounded to the nearest whole hour (under 30 minutes is not charged).
Tradie cancellations and no-shows
Tradies are never charged money for cancelling or missing a Job. Reliability is managed through strikes and, where needed, a restriction on the account.
| Situation | User gets | Strike |
|---|---|---|
| Tradie cancels a scheduled Job more than 24 hours before the Arrival Window | Full refund; offered another Tradie | No |
| Tradie cancels a scheduled Job within 24 hours, or cancels an accepted Emergency Job | Full refund; offered another Tradie | Yes |
| Tradie no-show: not arrived 60 minutes after the Arrival Window ends (or 60 minutes after accepting a call-out) with no update in the App | Full refund; any held call-out fee refunded | Yes |
| Tradie cannot show valid ID or Qualifications, or someone else attends | Full refund | Yes, and account reviewed |
| Tradie delayed by genuine emergency or safety reason and tells the User in the App | Full refund if User cancels | No |
How it works
- Evidence: arrival and waiting times are taken from the App’s location check-in and in-App call and message logs.
- Collection: User charges are taken from the card authorised at booking. Tradies are not charged money for cancelling or missing a Job.
- Strikes and restriction: a Tradie who withdraws from an accepted Job or misses a Job receives a reliability strike. After three no-shows the account is paused automatically: current Jobs continue, but no new Jobs are offered, pending review by a Tap a Tradie admin, who may lift the pause or remove the Tradie.
- Disputes: either side can raise a dispute from the Job in the App. Tap a Tradie reviews the location, call and message logs and decides fairly, keeping both sides updated.
- Fairness: consumer charges must reflect the Tradie’s real loss (time and travel). They are not penalties, and they never apply where the User uses their 14-day cancellation right before the Tradie has done anything.
